Legal documents
What legal documents you are required to present to study and reside in Argentina depend on your nationality and if your country has signed on to Convention de la Haya. If your original documents are in a language other than Spanish, you must get them translated by a nationally-registered, public translator and then have those translations legalizad by the College of Translators.
Residence
Obtaining Argentine residence has a fee and is a process that must be completed with in the first 30 days of inscription in your learning institution (a procedure executed by your place of study and of which they should inform you). You need to present the following documents:
1. Consent of inscprition form you school or institute of study.
2. A current and valid passport. If you passport is not in spanish, you must also present a translated, legalizad photocopy of the ID section, usually the first page.
3. Original copy of a Barth certificate that must be legalizad by the Argentine Consulate of your country or have the seal of the Apostille de La Haya.
4. If you are older than 16 years:
a. And you are a citizen of MERCOSUR or an associated country: a criminal record from your country of origin or from the countries in which you have resided during the last three years. You must have this document legalizad by the Argentine Consulate or stamped with the Apostille.
b. If you are from a country other than MERCOUSUR and its associated members: a criminal record from your country of origin or from the countries in which you have resided during that last five years. You then need to legalize it at the Argentine Consulate in your country of origin or have it stamped with the Apostille. If your country does not provide this type of certification for criminal records, you must present a consular/organization letter stating this case.
5. Criminal Record for Argentina (Federal Police or National Registry of Residence).
6. If you are a minor, you need to present the corresponding authorization for travel when you arrive to Argentina. This document should be legalizad by the Argentine Consulate in your country of origin or be stamped with the Apostille. If your parents are not accompanying you, you need a legal respresentative in Argentina that will be responsable for your expenses, living, etc.
7. Photocopies of every page in your passport (these do not need to be translated).
8. Two ID photos.
Diplomas
Legalization of high school diplomas:
1. In the country of origin: by the Ministry of Culture and Education (or equivalent body) and the Argentine Consulate.
2. In Argentina: legalize the diploma at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (original and photocopy).
Validating foreign university degrees
If you have already completed your univerisity studies, you need to present: your transcript and diploma (original and photocopy). These documents must be legalizad by:
1. The educational authorities from the country in which the diploma was received.
2. The Argentine Consulate in which the diploma was received. Or, in its absence, it must received the stamp of the Apostille de La Haya. For this Apostille, you need to know if your contry is a participant of the Convention de La Haya. If you receive the Apostille on your documents, you can skip the following step.
3. The Argentine Ministry of Foreign Relations, for which you need to be an actual Argentine resident.
You will need to add additional documents if you have special circumstances. For example:
. Child of a diplomat: you need a designation note from your mother, father or tutor abroad.
. Foreign-born born to an Argentine parent: include the proper documentation that proves the aforementiond fact, such as a birrth certificate or nacional identification document that clearly lables the nationality of one or both parents.
